BEAUTY TIPS

5 THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T BE DOING AGAIN IN MID/LATE TWENTIES

To keep the body in good health is a duty… otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. – Buddha

Being female/woman is one beautiful and life changing experience that comes with unfolding, metamorphosing and becoming. Today, I’m not even going to be talking about the psychological, mental, physical or emotional aspects to mothering and all, I’m gonna be talking about beauty tips!

Well, this right here is kinda a first for me ’cause I like to leave this kind of stuff to the beauty/makeup bloggers but hellow, I am a lifestyle blogger too and most importantly, I realized talking female, talking women, speaking gender equality, standing up for survivors of DV and Sexual Violence and Abuse, female health and wholeness all makes me an everything-women talker.

I’m not a beautician neither am I fashionista – nah! God knows the only thing I’ve managed to know about beauty and tips are things I’ve read online and things I’ve learnt from my own body and in that phase, I figured out that there are little information for people with dry and sensitive skin than oily skin especially; most makeup artists with blogs/beauty bloggers I know have either oily skin or normal skin and when you’re there, trying to get help, you only get stuff like you can try this but I can’t really say ‘cos I have oily skin. Now, I’m not even trying to judge but it’s like almost everybody has oily skin and the ones who don’t aren’t really interested in that line.

In finally getting to know what works for me, my skin and having a routine, I’ve had to make a couple of mistakes, fought some reactions, try some online stuff I managed to find, deal with the repercussions of the ones that didn’t work and keep the ones that did work.

Some other time, I’m going to share my skin routine as a dry and sensitive-skinned woman but today, I’m talking about some beauty things women shouldn’t be doing again in mid & late twenties.

5 Things You Should Know and Stop Doing

1.Stop hopping from one beauty products to the other: I think at this age, a woman should have a product to stick with. I know a lot of people try products a lot, especially if you’re a beautician and a makeup artist and yea, maybe I’m saying this because of my skin type, but I don’t think it has anything to do with it. The truth is just that, you can’t be using just anything and what seems available. Stuff like bathing soap, body cream, etc (you don’t joke with that). You can’t just use the next thing because you ran out of your bathing soap. When it seems like it’s about to be exhausted, replace it. I’m not saying don’t use another brand; I’m saying don’t be unstable with products. For example, I use black soap and I’ve used a couple of brands and I probably will still use some more but for now, I’m comfortable with the brand I’m using and I’m not planning to change it unless it’s no longer what it used to be.

2. Know your body  –  This is key! It’s true that everyday we get to know our body but you should have gotten to know your body to an extent. What kind of skin do you have? Does your face hate products with scents? Does wipes work for you more than oils? Do some oils irritate your face than the other? I for one can use coconut oil on any part of my body except my face! It landed me at the hospital one time. Do you need to stay away from carbonated drinks and take more water? Does eating late in the night affect you? Do certain fruits make you bloat? I’ve heard stuff like bananas make some people bloat. What are you allergic to? Is it a scent? A drug? A type of injection?. . . the list is endless and all these are very important.

3. Know your holy grails – Yes! Every woman has a holy grail product. These products have come a long way with you and they never fuck you up and I realize that most times, these products are oils and could be more than oils. For me, I think my holy grails are olive oil, almond oil, ACV and black soap. Every woman has it.

4. Stop joking with your health – Yea, I think I’ve managed to garner a couple of experiences in this path. A woman’s life is wrapped around a lot of things; she’s a carrier of life and a giver of life. I remember when I was young, I hate drugs. I preferred injection to drugs and I still do though, but my reaction to drugs back then has changed. Back then, I used to throw my drugs under the bed, outside and my mum will be sweeping them out in disdain. But now, I don’t need motivation to take my drugs. I still do not like drugs but I’ve learnt to take them. Also, stay away from certain drinks (I’m guilty of this sometimes especially when I’m travelling, coke, pepsi and gala) but the truth is, I should really take more green tea.

Your body is your business though but it is a serious business too. Click To Tweet

5. Never show lassitude – Yea, that’s the basis of it all. See, a woman should never care less about herself – her body, mind, etc. Your body is your business though but it is a serious business too. Beauty doesn’t come cheap but we’re trying to stay on top of it all. I am not saying, don’t be comfortable in your womanhood uniqueness, I’m just saying, be body-aware. For instance, I am not a makeup/fashion junkie but I like to dress good (in my kind of dressing; what I’m comfortable in and feels flatter my body. I’m a simple but really nice dresser) and I aspire to a very healthy and clean skin and nice simple makeup and that makes me really comfortable. Some people use the excuse of I’m not a makeup person, I’m not a fashion freak to justify their lassitude towards body health and wellness and it’s not just right.

You are right about this Ibukun. A lot of us hardly can decide what is best for our skin. We keep hopping from one product to another hoping to find the most suitable while even damaging your skin in the process.

I think it’s best to figure out your skin type, ask a skin therapist product you should avoid and check for ingredients on products before buying. That way, you are playing safe and helping your skin.

Nice post dear. The part” shouldn’t be jumping from one beauty products to another ” talked to me personally because I tend to do this another when I’m not satisfy with results from a particular product. But Ive overcome that now…. Thanks to this lucky find read.
